It was a long flight from Oklahoma City to Buenos Aires, but I made it in one piece. I had hoped to sleep for the majority of the flight, but I sat in an aisle seat and everyone kept bumping into me while heading to the bathroom. Once we arrived in Argentina, I went through customs pretty quickly, then took a remise (private car) to Hotel Arenales, my home for 4 weeks. The relatively cool Argentine winter (around 50-65 degrees) was a welcome change from the 104 degree temperatures that I left behind in Oklahoma. I checked in at the front desk and got the key to my tiny room on the 5th floor. I shared a room with 2 other students and we each had very small single beds. I was the first one to check in and opted to take a nap right away. After the nap, I got up for the welcome reception down in the lobby. Lots of yummy food and some wine while all of the participants in the program got to know each other. Then a group of us went to the bar down the street. It was called "Jobs" and it had a lot of game tables and plenty of American music from the late 1980's and early 1990's. The brew favored by locals is Quilmes. It was quite tasty.
